Intern

Role Description

Our internship program is designed for recent graduates or early-career individuals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., political science, international relations, economics). Interns gain hands-on experience by working closely with our research fellows. The internship offers an invaluable learning opportunity through direct involvement in research projects while also supporting events, communications, and day-to-day operations. Positions are flexible and can be arranged on a full-time or part-time basis, typically lasting up to six months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research support: Assist with qualitative and quantitative research, background information gathering, and data analysis for ongoing projects.

  • Publications and content: Help produce visual materials (charts, graphs) and draft short sections or summaries for reports, policy briefs, and website content.

  • Event and project assistance: Support the planning and execution of workshops, conferences, and other events, and provide general administrative assistance.

  • Collaboration and learning: Work closely with institute fellows and staff, receiving guidance and mentorship to build your professional network and skills.

Qualifications
  • Education: Completed bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a relevant discipline.

  • Skills: Excellent research and writing abilities; familiarity with basic analysis tools is an advantage.

  • Language: Professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory; German, French, or Bulgarian is an asset.

  • Eligibility: Sole citizenship of an EU Member State is required. Applicants holding any non-EU citizenship (including dual citizenship) cannot be considered for security reasons.

  • Availability: Able to commit to up to six months, full-time or part-time (minimum three days per week for part-time).

Research Assistants

Role Description

Research Assistant positions are geared toward advanced graduate students or recent post-graduates (enrolled in or having completed a master’s or PhD program). As a Research Assistant, you will engage deeply in our research initiatives, working closely with senior analysts and fellows to produce high-quality policy research. Contracts are offered on a full-time or part-time basis, typically for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Key Responsibilities

  • In-depth research and analysis: Conduct literature reviews, policy analysis, and data collection; contribute to drafting research papers, policy briefs, and reports.

  • Publication support: Prepare draft sections of publications and create supporting materials such as tables, charts, and presentations; assist in proofreading and fact-checking.

  • Data management: Manage datasets and perform statistical analysis where applicable (experience with STATA, R, or Python is highly valued).

  • Project coordination: Organize and document research meetings and workshops; track project milestones and coordinate with team members.

  • Collaboration: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and, where appropriate, co-author publications.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree or PhD (completed or in progress) in a relevant field (international relations, economics, security studies, political science, etc.).

  • Research experience: Demonstrated experience in research or policy analysis; familiarity with empirical methods and data analysis tools is advantageous.

  • Analytical & technical skills: Strong analytical thinking; proficiency with statistical or programming tools (Python, R, STATA) is a plus.

  • Communication skills: Superior written and oral English; German, French, or Bulgarian desirable.

  • Teamwork & organization: Ability to work independently and within teams in a fast-paced environment; attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
